Colors and Customization

Color
Color is too important a design element to be restricted to a palette of a few select colors. Sometimes as few as three; white, white or white.

Fiberglass can be painted any color. And we do just that. For Thermotech custom color means that we'll match your chip.

To ensure we've matched your chip properly we send you a sample for your approval. Once you've approved the color we start painting.

Other color options include a painted interior and a two tone exterior finish – that is the frame painted a different color than the sash.

Glazing by Orientation
South facing windows experience high solar gains in the winter and reduced solar gains in the summer. (Most people are surprised to learn that in a northern climate, south facing windows receive about as much solar radiation in the summer as a north facing window). East and west facing windows experience solar gains at the beginning and end of the day, year round. North facing windows receive little radiation, especially during the winter.

Given the different micro-climates on different sides of a building, isn't it logical to use different glazing on different orientations?

There is obvious merit to using better insulated windows on the north. There can also be merit to using low solar gain low e glass on the east and west, especially when views necessitate larger glazed areas. South facing windows usually benefit high from solar gain low e.

Tuning a building by glazing by orientation is most accurately done with computer simulations. But whatever the method for choosing glazing options, Thermotech is happy to provide windows with different glazings for each orientation.

Customization
‘Standard custom options', if we can use such a phrase, include color, hardwood interiors, simulated divided lites and glazing by orientaton.

‘Custom custom options' include oversize and undersize products. This can be as simple as a 12” hardwood jamb extension or as complicated as site installed custom reinforcing an oversize window for wind load.

Thermotech can also join windows and doors together into one integrated element of the building envelope – something few firms do well.
