Thermotech Fiberglass Windows: Home of the most energy efficient windows in the world - Link to Home

Why Thermotech?

  • Classic example of a small company with better ideas.
    • By our calculations, the most energy efficient windows and doors available.
    • An equally integral part of our sustainability ethic is quality and durability.
      • Without quality and durability, energy efficiency means nothing.
  • Like any small company we have neither the marketing muscle nor the purchasing power to directly compete with the Goliath's on their turf.
  • Instead we've focused on custom capabilities.
    • From the beginning we've embraced a made to order philosophy.
      • On the simplest level this means every size is a standard size.
    • Besides size flexibility, made to order means that glazing by orientation is possible.
    • It also means that custom color, meaning we match your chip, can be routine.
    • Simulated divided lites, in any pattern, even in triple glazed units, are also produced on a regular basis.
    • Beyond this, we are also willing to consider custom custom options.
  • So if you're looking not only for comfort and energy efficiency, but also for something a little different than a "cookie cutter" window we can help.
  • But you don't have to believe us. Here is what some other people are saying about us.

"Impressively conscientious company with honest and informative web page, as well as team of representatives."

Brown University's 'Environmentally Responsible Design'

"The Thermotech Fiberglass windows Klingenberg specified for the south side have an overall U-factor of 0.17. According to her research, they are the best available in North America... ... Last January, her electric bill (for all household uses, including heat) totaled only $35 (340 kWh), in spite of the fact that the month included two cloudy weeks and temperatures as low as -10°F [-23°C]"

Glazing by Orientation

  • If the four sides of a building receive different amounts of solar radiation, why should all your windows have the same type of glass in them?
  • Tuning a building by glazing by orientation is most accurately done with computer simulations.
    • Whatever the method for choosing glazing options, Thermotech is willing to provide windows with different glazings for each orientation.

South Facing Windows
East and West Facing Windows
North Facing Windows

South Facing Windows

  • South facing windows experience high solar gains in the winter and reduced solar gains in the summer.
  • Most people are surprised to learn that during a northern climate's summer, south facing windows receive about as much solar radiation as north facing windows.
  • Large south facing windows, that can help heat buildings in the winter, do not result in excessive air conditioning loads in the summer.
    • Since they don't create large air conditioning loads, there is usually little need for them to have a low solar gain low e.

East and West Facing Windows

  • East and west facing windows experience solar gains at the beginning and end of the day, year round.
  • If you have large glass areas on the east and/or west, then you may benefit from a low solar heat gain low e in these windows.

North Facing Windows

  • North facing windows receive little radiation, especially during the winter. They can benefit from additional insulation

Color

  • Too important a design element to be restricted to a palette of a few select colors - or even worse restricted to white.
  • Fiberglass can be painted any color.
    • And Thermotech will do just that.
    • For Thermotech custom color means that we'll match your chip.
  • To ensure proper match sample sent to customer
    • Windows painted only after customer approval of color match
  • Other color options include a painted interior and a two tone exterior finish — that is the frame painted a different color than the sash. For an example of a three tone corner section, see the corner sample in the casement windows section.
  • Fiberglass windows can also be painted on site at any point in their life.

Custom Custom Options

  • 'Standard custom options', include options that are typically considered custom for other companies.
    • custom color, hardwood interiors, simulated divided lites
  • 'Custom custom options' include options that are typically not offered by other companies.
    • As simple as a 12" hardwood jamb extension
    • As complicated as site installed custom reinforcing an oversize window for wind load.
  • Thermotech can also join windows and doors together into one integrated element of the building envelope — something few firms do well.
