Thermotech's Fiberglass Edge:
Energy Rating Advantage
The Energy Rating or ER compares window energy efficiency in the same way that the EnerGuide compares appliance energy efficiency.
Developed jointly by the Canadian Standards Association and the window industry, The ER is a better way to measure a window's energy efficiency than the misleading R value. The glass R value is a misleading measure of energy efficiency because it only accounts for the heat loss through the center of the glass. The ER on the other hand considers all the energy flows through the window; both the losses and the gains. Specifically, the ER considers, the total glass R value, the frame R value, air leakage as well as the average solar gain.
Because the ER relies on an average solar gain, it can only be used for general comparisons. It can not be used to compare actual performance for a specific location, orientation and window size.
To overcome these limitations, use the Specific Energy Rating or ERS. The ERS is calculated the same way as the ER, except it is for a specific location, orientation and window size.
Thermotech's Fiberglass windows have the highest ERS of any windows registered with Ontario Hydro. The diagrams below illustrate the ER and ERS for several glass options in the Fiberglass Casement.

The Fine Print:
Vinyl and wood windows are "typical" design. Every window maker has slightly different designs. But no matter what you are considering, no matter what other sales people say, no window registered with Ontario Hydro has a better Rating than Thermotech's Fiberglass Windows.
