These characteristics exceed the requirements for NWDA’s Grade 60.

FRAME & SASH

Fiberglass profiles are made from more than 60% glass fibres. The balance is polyester resin and performance additives. The glass fibres are made by spinning melted silica sand. The thermoset polyester resin is based on a petroleum derived alkide. The frame and sash are insulated with expanded polystyrene. Frame corners are assembled with foam filled glass reinforced nylon corner keys. . Standard frame depth is 3 ¼”. For door sidelites and transoms, as well as windows with mullions between large glass areas, use the optional 4 ½” frame.

BRICKMOULD

Extruded aluminums brickmoulds are available with and without integral installation flanges.

FINISH

All exposed portions of the fiberglass profiles are painted. Standard finish is Grafted Coatings’ K™-4. This water borne acrylic/urethane meets AAMA 613-96 and 615-96 (draft). All profiles are stocked in white. Custom colours are available. Also available is a real red oak or hard maple veneer interior.

JAMB EXTENSIONS

Wood jamb extensions are available in many depths and species, including pre-primed, veneer wrapped strawboard and ‘river bottom’ pine.

HARDWARE

A dual arm Truth™ scissors arm rotogear operator is standard. It has a high pressure die cast zinc case, crank handle and knob. The handle operates a hardened steel drive worm and gear arm. A single lever lock, identical to the casement multi-pt lock is installed on all windows over 24” high. Windows 24” and shorter have two zinc die cast sash locks. Standard hardware colours are white, or beige. Heavy duty concealed hinges allow 90 degree opening when operator is disconnected.

GLASS

The insulating glass conforms to CAN/CSGB-12.8-M90. Minimum glass thickness is 3mm or 1/8” (double strength). Both double glazing (20mm or ¾” overall thickness) and triple glazing (34mm or 1 5/16” overall thickness) are available. All glazing is dual sealed and made with Edgetech’s SuperSpacer ™. Glass thickness is determined by the National Building Code of Canada.

High performance glazing options include; ‘self-cleaning’ glass, spectrally selective daylighting glass, tinted glass, reflective glass, Heat Mirror ™, pyrolitic (hard coat) low emissivity glass and sputtered (soft coat) low emissivity glass, as well as standard safety glass options.

GLAZING

The glass sits on shims and is held in place by a removable exterior aluminums glass stop. Double sided foam tape on the interior and thermoplastic rubber on the exterior assist in securing the glass. The glazing cavity is edge drained to the exterior with concealed drainage holes. The glazing cavity is also edge vented to the exterior through concealed vent holes. Glass replacement does not require sash replacement.

MUNTINS

Muntin options include Georgian grilles between glass and two types of simulated divided lites in both double and triple glazing.

WEATHERSTRIPPING

The three seal design conforms to rain screen principle. The exterior seal prevents dust and rain penetration. The centre thermoplastic bulb seal prevents air leakage. The inner thermoplastic seal restricts air from circulating into the hardware cavity and condensing on the sash and the hardware. All weatherstripping is replaceable.

SCREEN

Factory installed screens come with all opening windows. The roll formed aluminums screen frame is held in place with retractable retaining pins, concealed in the screen’s corner keys. Screen frames are white or beige and are recessed mounted in the frames. Standard screens are made from black, non-glare, fiberglass cloth which is spline set.
